Your staging date is the date by which you must begin enrolling qualifying staff into a pension scheme.
Staging began in 2012 with larger employers staging first. It will continue into 2018 by which time all companies must have enrolled their qualifying employees.
Medium-sized employers with between 50 and 249 employees have already staged.
Small and micro employers with fewer than 50 staff began to stage in 2015 and will all have staged by the end of 2017, leaving new employers to stage in 2018.
If you become an employer for the first time on or after 1 October 2017, you will have to put a pension in place on the first date of employment. This is know as ‘duties start date’.
